Certifications

In the packaging industry, MBS materials are widely used in the manufacture of transparent PVC food packaging films. The main requirements of this type of packaging film are excellent optical properties and strong impact toughness, while meeting the safety standards of food contact materials. The formula usually uses PVC resin with a K value of 67 as the base material, adds 8 to 12 parts of MBS impact modifier to enhance the impact resistance, and combines organic tin heat stabilizer and epoxy soybean oil to ensure its thermal stability and flexibility during processing. A small amount of calcium stearate is added as a lubricant to optimize the extrusion film forming process. The film is made by twin-screw extrusion granulation, and then cast, and the roller temperature is maintained at around 80°C. The light transmittance of the finished film can reach more than 90%, and the haze is controlled within 3%. At the same time, it can withstand a free fall impact of more than 300 grams in the ASTM D1709 test. It has both aesthetics and practicality and is widely used in cold fresh, cooked food and other fields.


In the beverage packaging link, the demand for PET bottle caps is more focused on the toughness performance in low-temperature use environments. This type of bottle cap needs to remain crack-free under refrigerated or frozen conditions, so in addition to the basic PET resin (intrinsic viscosity of about 0.8 dl/g), 6 to 8 parts of MBS are added to the formula to enhance its low-temperature impact resistance. In order to improve the crystallization rate and product transparency, 0.2 parts of sodium benzoate are usually added as a nucleating agent, and carbodiimide is used to inhibit hydrolysis and improve durability. This formula is suitable for injection molding and can be quickly molded at an injection temperature of 250 to 265°C and a low-temperature mold (15~20°C). Experimental results show that the impact strength of this type of bottle cap is increased by about 50% at -20°C, and no cracks appear in the 1.5-meter drop test. It is suitable for product lines with high sealing requirements such as carbonated beverages and bottled water.
In terms of electronic and home appliance products, consumers have increasing requirements for appearance and durability. For example, a transparent PC mobile phone case must not only have extremely high impact resistance, but also good scratch resistance and clear visual effects. Adding 5 to 7 parts of MBS to the PC resin matrix can significantly improve its toughness, while adding a small amount of UV stabilizer and 1 part of silicone anti-scratch agent is used for anti-aging and surface wear protection, respectively. This formulation is injection molded in a molten state at 280-300°C, and the mold is kept at a higher temperature (80-100°C) to ensure molding quality. The final product not only has a notched impact strength of ≥60 kJ/m², but also maintains a transmittance of more than 88% and a haze as low as 2%, making it widely used in electronic products such as smartphones and tablets.

Another application is in charger shells made of ABS/PC alloys, which require high flame retardancy and good drop performance while maintaining good processability. By adding 6 parts of MBS to the 70/30 ratio of ABS/PC alloy, its overall toughness can be effectively improved. At the same time, 12 parts of brominated flame retardants and 0.5 parts of anti-drip agents are added to make the product meet the UL94 V-0 flame retardant standard. This formula is suitable for twin-screw compounding at 220~240°C, followed by injection molding, with the mold temperature controlled at around 60°C. The final product not only passes the flame retardant test, but also shows excellent impact toughness in the drop test, making it an ideal material for the housing of various 3C power devices.
The automotive industry has more stringent requirements on material performance, especially in the field of interior decoration and lighting. Taking PVC automotive dashboard finishes as an example, such parts must not only resist aging caused by long-term sunlight exposure, but also withstand scratches and friction in daily use. In this case, PVC paste resin with P=1300 is selected as the base material, with 10 to 15 parts of MBS to enhance its impact resistance, and a high content of epoxy plasticizer (30 parts) is added to improve softness, and then hindered amine light stabilizers are used for anti-aging treatment. This formula is suitable for calendering process, and the surface material is made in the range of 160~170°C, and then the surface performance and scratch resistance are improved by UV coating. The final product can reach 4/5 grade in the five-finger scratch test, and the ΔE value does not exceed 2 after 1000 hours of xe non lamp aging, and the color can remain stable after long-term use.
