Dioctyl Terephthalate (DOTP)

Dioctyl Terephthalate, also known as DOTP, is a non-phthalate containing plasticizer. It is used primarily as a plasticizer in PVC production. DOTP-based end products comply with environmental requirements such as 16P, ROHS and REACH regulation. It has no adverse effects on human health. DOTP can be used as a direct replacement for DOP and DINP in a range of applications due to its thermal resistance, excellent durability and transparency.

Compared with DOP, it has the advantages of heat resistance, cold resistance, low volatility, resistance to extraction, flexibility and electrical insulation.In the products show excellent durability, resistance to soapy water and low temperature flexibility.Because of its low volatility, the use of DOTP can fully meet the temperature requirements of wire and cable, can be widely used in 70 ℃ cable material (International Electrotechnical Commission IEC standards) and other soft PVC products.

Application

1. Electrical wire and cable materials  
DOTP features high volume resistivity, excellent thermal stability, low volatility, low migration, and superior electrical insulation properties. It is suitable for producing PVC cable jackets, automotive wiring harnesses, flexible wires, and data cables capable of withstanding temperatures up to 70°C.

2. Automotive Interior and Under-the-Bonnet Components
DOTP has low fogging properties (no windscreen fogging), heat and cold resistance, and high flexibility at -40°C. It complies with non-phthalate regulations and can be used to produce dashboard trim, door trim, armrests, gaskets, O-rings, wiring harnesses, and thermoplastic trim.

3. Building materials  
DOTP offers long-term durability, UV resistance, extraction resistance, excellent compatibility with PVC, and high filler acceptance. It can be used to produce PVC flooring, roof waterproofing membranes, wall covering materials, geomembranes, and waterproofing membranes.

4. Consumer Goods and Home Products  
DOTP is safe for food contact (phthalate-free), has low odour, high transparency, and good printability, and can be used to produce flexible packaging films, inflatable products, thermoplastic toys, artificial leather, tablecloths, and shower curtains.

5. Medical and Healthcare Devices  
DOTP is phthalate-free, compliant with USP/EP standards, has low extractability, and is sterilisable (γ-rays, ethyIene oxide, steam). It can be used to produce blood and plasma storage bags, intravenous infusion tubes, dialysis tubes, and medical films.

6. Paints, Coatings, and Specialty Chemicals  

DOTP has excellent solubility and low-temperature flexibility, reduces viscosity, and enhances film elasticity. It can be used to produce NC varnish, furniture-grade polyurethane and acrylic coatings, precision lubricants, and paper softeners.

7. Rubber and asphalt modification  
DOTP, as an auxiliary plasticiser, reduces hardness and deformation, offers excellent low-temperature flexibility, and has good compatibility with polar elastomers. It can be used to produce nitrile rubber (NBR), chloroprene rubber (CR), and ethylene-propylene-diene monomer (EPDM) compounds, as well as diluted asphalt for crack sealing.
