Definition: a common general-purpose plasticizer

Principle

1. Plasticizing is an important method of polymer modification, for example, the flow temperature of PVC is close to the decomposition temperature, molding is often added 30 to 50% of dibutyl phthalate, which can reduce its flow temperature and melt viscosity to facilitate processing. Can also improve its cold resistance, impact resistance, made of soft plastic products (film, tape, artificial leather, etc.).

2. The principle of PVC plasticizer is mainly through the weakening of polychloroethylene PVC molecules between the secondary valence of Jian, that is, van der Waals force, thereby increasing the mobility of the molecular chain, reduce the crystallinity of the polymer, and ultimately achieve the effect of plasticizing. Plasticizers are inserted between the PVC molecular chains, weakening the intermolecular forces and increasing the mobility of the polymer molecules, thus improving the processing performance of PVC and the flexibility of the products.

3.Mechanisms of PVC plasticizers

    1) Weakening the intermolecular forces: Plasticizers work by weakening the van der Waals forces between PVC molecules, so that the interaction force between molecular chains is weakened, and the movement of molecular chains becomes easier, thus reducing the hardness, modulus and softening temperature of the polymer, and improving the elongation, curvature and flexibility.

    2) Reducing the viscosity of the melt: the addition of plasticizers can reduce the PVC melt's viscosity of the PVC melt, making it easier to process. Plasticizer molecules contain polar groups and non-polar parts, the polar groups and the part of the PVC molecular chain dipole attraction occurs, the non-polar part of the molecular chain will be separated, increasing the spacing between them, further weakening the attraction between the molecular chain .

    3) Improved processability and flexibility: the addition of plasticizers makes PVC in the The addition of plasticizers makes PVC easier to shape during processing, and the flexibility of the products is also significantly improved.
